Cmdr. Sanok, Day 1, 1137) Sanok sat in his chair thinking about how much things had changed recently. Things had settled back into a routine, but less than two weeks ago, they had major personnel changes, and they had shut down an illegal mining operation that involved forced labor. With a search warrant in hand, Sanok had led a team to Ternax IV to inspect a survey company based on the surface. Everything they found there had been legal, meticulously so, but within the mine itself, they had found the people that were essentially slaves. Most of the people guarding the laborers had given up without a struggle, but several diehards insisted on fighting. No one had been killed, but after a short firefight, all the guards had been subdued. Unfortunately, the Ferengi in charge had managed to escape, and the trilithium vests had not been found. As much good as was done, this part was bad. Sanok was certain they'd be dealing with both again one day. Doctor Andersen and the sickbay staff were suddenly busy looking after the freed laborers, though Starfleet sent a medical ship to take them, as well as the arrested guards and people from the surface facility. The Rosenante returned to its patrol route, and for a time, things had fallen into a quiet routine. Now, things were becoming busy again. The Rosenante had received an automated distress signal. Moving forward at yellow alert, they learned that the signal was being sent by the USS Tesla, a Nova class science vessel that had been assigned to the sector to study the strange plasma storms that had damaged the Rosenante in an earlier mission. After conducting several scans, something strange had been found. The Tesla was simply floating in space, with all systems functioning, but there was no one on board. They scanned for cloaked ships. They scanned for ion storm activity. They scanned for all known anomalies. They scanned three times for the crew. Nothing. Captain Soma decided to send an away team over to investigate. "Mister Jackson, you will lead the away team. Ensigns Signos, Maddox, and Ross, you will go as well." Sanok tapped his comm badge. "Lieutenant Kevras, Doctor Andersen, and PO Tesha, report to the transporter room." After closing the comm, he addressed Jackson as the four from the bridge approached the turbolift. "I will be there to brief you before you leave." Sanok grabbed a PADD and began downloading the information they had on the Tesla. (reply any) (posted by Bob B.) ----- (USS Rosenante - Bridge - Science Officer - Ensign (JG) Andrew Maddox - 1139) The events of the last ten days had been dying down quite a bit, and then the distress call came. It was a Star Fleet standard automated distress signal. For a USS Tesla, Nova class. The yellow alert klaxon sounded twice and was silent. Indicator strips around the bridge and all terminals lit in a light amber hue. Andrew decided to make himself useful, now being on the bridge, and not his usual hide out in the science lab, he started directing the lateral sensors to scanning the vessel. He sent the findings to the center chair and the OPS station. ~Strange, no life signs, but the vessel is still in working order.~ Andrew thought. He had also ran a tachyon scan for cloaked vessels and other scans for all sorts of anomalies. He sent those negative readings to the center chair and OPS as well. "I will be there to brief you before you leave." Andrew acknowledged the order from the First Officer and followed Lieutenant Jackson off the Bridge into the lift. (Reply any) (USS Rosenante - Transporter Room 1 - Science Officer - Ensign (JG) Andrew Maddox - 1153) Andrew had made a stop off to the Science lab to gather some equipment. He grabbed one of his science tricorders and an engineering kit, soon he was in the Transporter room. Others had gathered but Andrew was not the last. Lieutenant Jackson handed him a Type II phaser. "I was hoping we wouldn't need those, sir." Andrew commented. (Reply Lieutenant Jackson) "No argument here, sir. I understand we don't know what's going on, and there could be hostiles over there that we cannot as of yet identify, just saying I don't like it as all." He said as he attached the phaser and holster to his belt opposite of the tricorder. (Reply Jackson, any) (Posted by Todd) ----- (Rosenante, Bridge, 2O/Cops Lt. Tom Jackson , Day 1, 1140) Tom was manning Ops after spelling Dahlia from tending to sick twins. Thomas was grateful for the strong black coffee the petty officer Graatz had ordered up got him. They were soon back to work. An automated distress signal has been found. The rose for some heading in that direction. Captain Soma wanted a close-up look at the ship in an effort to determine why the automated distress signal had been activated. "Mister Jackson, you will lead the away team. Ensigns Signos, Maddox, and Ross, you will go as well." Sanok tapped his comm badge. "Lieutenant Kevras, Doctor Andersen, and PO Tesha, report to the transporter room." After closing the comm, the FO addressed Jackson as the four from the bridge approached the turbolift. "I will be there to brief you before you leave." "Aye Aye Commander " Tom replied as the foursome entered the turbolift'. Tom and the contingent from the bridge then entered the lift. (USS Rosenante Transporter Room 1 Day 1 1146 - 2O/COPS - Lt. (Reply : Any ) (Posted by: Bill West) ----- (USS Rosenante, Personal Quarters, PO1 Tesha, Day 1, 1141) Tesha was working the evening shift that day, and her roommate was on the day shift, so Tesha had been spending a quiet morning alone. She had heard about a famous author from a few hundred years ago on Earth, so she had begun reading his books. Currently, she was reading one called, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, a story she found to be quite enjoyable. In a way, she could identify with the Sawyer character and some of the mischievous things he did. Settling in her favorite, comfy chair, a tall glass of apple juice on the table next to her, she began to read. Her comm badge chirped. =^=Lieutenant Kevras, Doctor Andersen, and PO Tesha, report to the transporter room.=^= Tesha stopped reading and blinked, her antennae moving in a slow, circular pattern. Had she heard correctly? "Computer, replay that last comm message." [Lieutenant Kevras, Doctor Andersen, and PO Tesha, report to the transporter room.] "Well, how about that?" Turning off the PADD she was reading, and gulping down her juice, Tesha checked herself in the mirror before rushing out of her room. (USS Rosenante, Transporter Room, PO1 Tesha, Day 1, 1148) Before entering the transporter room, Tesha stopped and took a deep breath. She had her med kit with her, a tricorder, and a hand phaser, so she was properly equipped, but that wasn't the cause of her nervousness. Tesha had a general disdain for officers, and here she was, assigned to an away team with a bunch of them. With another deep breath, and a twitch of her antennae, Tesha stepped inside. Tesha quickly spotted an empty space near a wall, a perfect place to stand, so she made a beeline straight for it without making eye contact with anyone. She thought someone nodded at her, but she stayed focused on her spot until she was standing there quietly. Everyone that was there seemed as though they were looking forward to the mission, which made Tesha more nervous. She had to work to appear like she knew what she was doing. The door opened and Doc Andersen entered. She was soon standing besides Tesha. This actually made her begin to feel more at ease. Whatever lay ahead, maybe it wouldn't be so bad after all. (reply any) (posted by Bob B.) ----- (USS Rosenante - Sickbay - ACMO Ensign (jg) Ailyn Andersen - 1142) A fine start of a seemingly boring day it was. About a week ago ago, Ailyn was drowning in the work, there were workers from the mining colony and the Rosenante's sickbay was full of them, but then Starfleet sent a medical vessel relieving Rosenante of this work. They were back to patrol duties and day after day there wasn't much to do, every day really looked like every other. Amidst all this she was just thinking about grabbing a snack when, to her surprise, the intercom badge sounded. "Lieutenant Kevras, Doctor Andersen, and PO Tesha, report to the transporter room." ordered the first officer ~Seems not as boring as I thought.~ Ailyn chuckled (USS Rosenante - Transporter Room - ACMO Ensign (jg) Ailyn Andersen - 1149) Finding the first turbolift, she proceeded to the transporter room. Entering the room, she found the other two already there waiting as well as Liutenant Jackson. Walking to the others quietly, she stood beside Tesha while waiting for further instructions. Tesha seemed puzzled as much as Ailyn of what was happening anyway. (Reply: None) (Posted by: Lani) ----- (USS Rosenante, ACEO Office, ACEO Lieutenant Tho'var Kevras - 1146) It didn't took long for the presentation to be over and the paperwork to start. It was part of the responsibilities that came with the "Assistant" beside the "chief engineer". After having completed the review of the department duty roster, Tho'var was now reviewing the maintenance report. During the next week or so, there were a few parts that had passed their normal lifetime and needed to be changed. That included the deuterium injectors of warp reactor 12 to 16, the tritanium-nickel part of the impulse manifold,... There were also a series of diagnostic that has not been done for a long time. However, as it happens often on a starfleet ship, a new mission started and they had to postpone a few of those maintenance jobs. The beta shift had already started to change the injectors of warp reactor 12 and 13. So number 14 to 16 had to be changed in the upcoming month. Tho'var looked again at the number of tasks to be completed in the upcoming months. If they had two weeks to get most of the jobs done, it was still not good enough for the ship scheduled maintenance. The operation department had made quite a precise list of what has to be done, and in fact, engineering and operation were quite on a same page about it. The USS Rosenante was one of the finest ship of the fleet, and it needed to be keep at optimal efficiency. He didn't knew lieutenant Jackson much, but considering how much Starfleet take security seriously, he was going to, at least, warn them to find the time. Those scheduled maintenance needed to be done. He was interrupted when a communication came in. =/\= Lieutenant Kevras, Doctor Andersen, and PO Tesha, report to the transporter room.=/\= "Acknowledge" said Tho'var. He reserved the maintenance page list for another time, then sent a note to lieutenant commander Matrix about where he was at, and then headed to transporter room, taking the time to take what was going to be needed on the USS Tesla. (Reply: None) (Posted by: Bill W.) ----- (USS Rosenante, Transporter Room 1, ACEO Lieutenant Tho'var Kevras - 1157) It took Tho'var at least ten minutes to send the update to Matrix and prepare for the away mission, and he barely on time. The first thing he noticed when entering was the conversation between lieutenant Jackson and an officer he didn't know. From the color of her uniform, she was certainly a medical officer. He also noticed an Andorian present....a petty officer. He didn't knew who she was, but she seemed incredibly shy, which was not the most typical of Andorians, but were still common enough. For a second, he thought of communicating her hello through telepathy but decided she might feel even more uncomfortable. Rather, he just nodded as she looked at him and took place on the transporter. At that moment, the new FO arrived. Tho'var listened carefully. On his part, he had nothing to ask. He knew what he had to do. What he was unsure of, however, was the presence of a security officer with him. "Greetings ensign." Tho'var started. (Reply Ross) "I'm lieutenant Tho'var Kevras... It's nice to know you will be with me, but if I may ask, how much do you know about engineering...cause you are from security right?" (Reply Ross) "Ok..... I intended to go right at the CEO console on main engineering and process from there, but perhaps, for security issue, you would like us to proceed in a certain way?" (Reply Ross) (Posted by Nick) ----- (USS Rosenante - Transporter Room - ACMO Ensign (jg) Ailyn Andersen - Day 1 - 1158) "Welcome along Doctor. How are you?" Lt. Jackson asked Ailyn Being a first away mission, Ailyn had no clue what to expect. Everything felt out of her control, and she was a tad bit nervous because of that. "Great, sir." said Ailyn and smiled, ofcourse she looked forward to the away missions because, despite she didn't know much and that it made her nervous, away missions were a great place to gain real firsthand experience, and that is invaluable for a fresh Starfleet officer like her. "Is this your first away Mission?" Jackson asked, as if he could feel Ailyn being nervous, despite her best trying of hiding it. For a moment, Lt. Jackson seemed to have slipped into thinking. "Yes, it is." said Ailyn, no point in hiding the nervousness anymore. Ailyn took a second to remember her days at the Academy and a friend who never made it as an officer. She remembered his friendly promise to her that he would be the first one to get into an away team and discover a new race. A bold promise it was from a young and reckless cadet. ~If only Steven would be here now, it would be soo hilarious.~ Trying hard not to laugh aloud, Ailyn cheered up. Ailyn thought about asking Lt. Jackson what was his first mission like, when first officer Sanok entered the Transporter Room. The room went dead silent. (Reply: None) (Posted by: Lani) ----- (Rosenante, Transporter Room, FO/CSec Lt. Cmdr. Sanok, Day 1, 1159) Sanok stepped into the transporter room and it became quiet. Looking at everyone that was there, he went right to the briefing. "We received an automated distress signal from the USS Tesla, a Nova class science vessel assigned to study the unusual plasma field storm activity in this sector. Upon our arrival, we found the Tesla functioning normally, but no one was on board. We conducted a full spectrum of scans, but nothing was found. You will beam over in small teams to try to discover what happened. Lieutenant Jackson will be in command. "Mister Maddox, you will go with Lieutenant Jackson to search the bridge. Doctor Andersen, PO Tesha, and Ensign Signos will beam to sickbay. Lieutenant Kevras and Ensign Ross will investigate engineering. "Stay alert and watch out for each other. There may be something there we cannot detect." Sanok knew he didn't need to say that, as everyone would do so as part of their duties. This being his first mission as FO, things were different. He had always taken responsibility to protect his shipmates, but there was a greater responsibility now. "The Tesla is commanded by Captain Colby Wesson. He is of some renown within the scientific community, but more importantly, he is a competent and dedicated commanding officer. The crew compliment is 83, which includes 9 civilians." Sanok paused for a few seconds. "There isn't much else to say. Unless there are questions, you will beam over now in teams. Jackson and Maddox would be first." "Stay alert and watch out for each other. There may be something there we cannot detect." Ailyn could think of a thousand scenarios that very second what happened, but she had to remember it was all wild guessing. "The Tesla is commanded by Captain Colby Wesson. He is of some renown within the scientific community, but more importantly, he is a competent and dedicated commanding officer. The crew compliment is 83, which includes 9 civilians." ~Misplace 92 souls and you're still considered competent, loose a single patient and it's all hell on earth. And then you go for the doctor, Ailyn. Real best move in your career.~ thought Ailyn sarcasticly. Realistically, she was trying not to think of all the other ideas what could have happened with the crew, and what could happen to the Rosenante crew now. Sanok continued after a few seconds. "There isn't much else to say. Unless there are questions, you will beam over now in teams. Jackson and Maddox would be first." Ailyn felt ready for whatever that was coming. She had no questions she could think of. She took a few more seconds to double check her gear. For something that was a routine to others, it was a completely new thing for her. The two officers disappeared off the pad. (Reply none) (USS Tesla - Bridge - Science Officer - Ensign (JG) Andrew Maddox - 1211) When Andrew materialized on the bridge he saw that no one was present. Had there been the normal activity the bridge of a vessel of this type Andrew is positive that someone would have bumped into him or Lieutenant Jackson with-in moments of their beam in. Satisfied he wasn't in danger Andrew pulled out his tricorder, flipped it open and started an automatic scan algorithm. He held the tricorder in his left hand while using his dominant hand to attempt to access the local bridge panels. He set his tool kit down on the deck between the helm and the OPS stations. He checked both those stations before reporting back. "Helm is locked as is OPS." He reported. (Reply Jackson) "Well I have a few theories." Andrew said, more of thinking out loud. (Reply Jackson) "Well I hypothesize that if we check any station that they would all be locked. Which would point to a lock out of the main computer as well, as if the stations were locked but the main computer wasn't we could easily by-pass the locks on the individual stations. If the main computer is not locked out then we know we are either only dealing with amateurs who don't know exactly what they are doing, or that it was done in a hurry or hastily. Or it was done by those persons or a person who doesn't know how Star Fleet computers and systems are laid out. The bridge is usually always in a state of cleanliness and/or order, so the lack of dust would put this event somewhere in the recent timeline. Say less than a week but probably less than 3 days." Andrew explained. (Reply Jackson) "I agree sir, we need more information. The state of the personal quarters would be telling, but we can tell that it was either fairly sudden or they were taken by surprise because none of the alerts were triggered, either automatically by the computer or manually by the crew. Either way there are too many variables to give a proper analysis." He caught him self from completely rambling the second time. "So what are your orders and priorities?" (Reply Jackson) (Posted by Todd) ----- (USS Rosenante - Transporter Room - ATAC Ensign(sg) Jessica Signos - Day 1 - 1207) The order had come down that she was to be on the away team to again investigate another abandoned ship, and Jessica wasted no time making her way to the transporter room. Only making a slight stop by an armory to pick up an hand phaser and tactical tricorder. which she promptly linked to her tac-circlet. She also pulled two throwing knifes that would strap to her forearms and lie hidden beneath her uniform. She held the right one for a bit. She had a fondness for the blade. It was this blade that stuck down a great evil in a prior mission, for it was this blade that had killed the Borg Volus. In that mission her entire world changed. It was in that mission her and Lily began the merge into sharing her mind. In time maybe one persona would give way to the other but that seemed also far off. She entered the transporter room, and found a quite corner of a wall, has she watched the others that entered. After that second away mission and those that followed Jessica was becoming just as battle hardened as the assassin that she shared her body with. But those mission did little to overcome the additional skills and training the darker part that lived deep with in the child looking starfleet officer. She watched has the FO entered and began to brief the gathered. There wasn't much information to go on but that was what these away missions were for. She remained silent when the floor was opened for question to be asked. There was still bad blood between her and the FO and Jessica was unsure how her questions would be taken. She was to provide the security element for the two medical personnel has they checked sickbay. Jessica do to her special genetic abnormality had grown use and wary of sickbays. Once everyone's questions were answered and all that were gathered were ready to proceed. Jessica waited with her team till it was their turn to step upon the pad and disappear in a brilliant white only to find themselves in a place other than the Rosenanate. Normally, she would have giggled, but due to the seriousness of the mission, she held that in, allowing herself only the smile. Whenever she went through a transporter, her antennae left pleasant, vibrating feeling that had always made her laugh. It was similar to the soft, gentle caress of a lover. She had never mentioned it to anyone, but she had always wondered if other Andorians experienced it. Getting to why they were there, Tesha began to look around, though she had noticed how quickly Signos had kicked into security mode. Tesha had seen the small woman around the ship, and had heard a lot of scuttlebutt about her, but this was the first time they would be working together. There were a lot of theories about Signos, from her being the result of some sort of secret experiment gone wrong, to her being downright crazy in the head. Tesha had figured a number of explanations fit her, but as long as Signos didn't cause her any problems, she didn't much care what it was. Tesha moved to a computer console and accessed the general menu. When she tried to open the patient log, there was a beep, and the words, access denied, flashed across the screen. She tried again, with the same results. She then tried to access supply records, but the same thing happened. "We seem to be locked out of the computer." The sickbay on a Nova class wasn't very big, so it wouldn't take long to search the place. Letting Doc Andersen deal with the computer, Tesha moved to the biobeds. When she tried to access them to see if they had been used recently, she got the same lockout. She sighed with irritation, her antennae bobbing slightly. Drumming her fingers on one of the beds, she wondered what they were going to do next. (reply Andersen, Signos) (posted by Bob B.) ----- (USS Tesla, Main Engineering, ACEO Lieutenant Tho'var Kevras - 1212) After a brief conversation with ensign Ross on their way to main engineering, Tho'var took a look around main engineering. At first glance, there was any sign of physical damage or anything of the sort. It seemed like a normal engineering a few hours after shore leave had started. The tour done, he walked to the pool table on main engineering. Pressing a few buttons, it wasn't really what he expected. "Eeeh.... We are locked out." started to say Tho'var. He looked over the starfleet codes he registered for the USS Tesla and after carefully checking and trying them one more time, he had no more success. "It really does not work and I don't know why." said again Tho'var (Reply Ross iyw) Tho'var opened a communication to lieutenant jackson. "Lieutenant Jackson, I wanted to check with you the codes of the USS Tesla. The one I got does not work here, and I wonder if they have not been changed recently." (Reply Jackson) "Yeah....that's the one I have but no success. I wonder if we would have better luck from the bridge. Maybe they locked engineering on purpose." Tho'var waited a few seconds for Jackson to check the computer on the bridge. (Reply Jackson) It meant the whole ship's computer was locked out.... "Seems I would need to analyse the whole computer system. But first, I may be able to bypass the computer protection. I will contact you back as soon as I am done." (Reply Jackson) "Lieutenant Kevras out." Tho'var looked at ensign Ross. "The whole ship's computer system is locked. I will try to bypass it but I don't have the appropriate chip for that. We should find one in the ship engineering storage." (Reply Ross) (USS Tesla, Main Engineering, ACEO Lieutenant Tho'var Kevras - 1226) Tho'var was back in main engineering with the chip. It was a special chip made to complete diagnostic on the ship computer. It was powered externally by its own computer, meaning the ship computer system did not had to work for the diagnostic to proceed. With the chip, it could then look at the ODN and sees what did not worked. The diagnostic he could complete with the chip were minors, but it could nevertheless help reprogram some of the computer subroutine, and start them over. Sometimes, it was sufficient to get rid of most problems. To reach main engineering computer system, Tho'var had to get through the Jeffery's tube and access one of the computer panel. As he worked on the diagnostic, he was surprise the ensign actually followed him in the Jeffery's tube. "You didn't had to come with me that deep, you know." No answer came from the ensign. Tho'var closed his eyes and started to feel his environment. The ensign was just beside him....but this time on his right. He was probably getting uncomfortable. He was probably not used to those narrow space...at least not as used as engineers would be. "I know it's quite narrow here. They have not been designed to have more than one person doing maintenance or diagnostic, so it could easily become quite hot and difficult to breathe. It's okay if you wait for me down here." said Tho'var, starting to feel the heat himself. "In fact, I'm done here for now so you can leave...." added Tho'var. As he exited the Jeffery's tube, Tho'var looked around him, expecting to see the ensign just beside him. But the ensign was rather far away, close to main engineering entrance. He looked like he ran there as soon as he exited the tube, but for what reason? "Are you okay ensign?" asked Tho'var. (Posted by Nick) ----- (USS Tesla – Bridge - 2O/COPS –Lt. "That's damned odd" Jackson replied. "I wonder why that happened. Any ideas Andrew?" He asked his teammate. (Reply; Andrew) “Well I have a few theories.” Andrew said, more of thinking out loud. "I am interested in your ideas" Tom added. Andrew continued “Well I hypothesize that if we check any station that they would all be locked. Which would point to a lock out of the main computer as well, as if the stations were locked but the main computer wasn’t we could easily by-pass the locks on the individual stations. If the main computer is not locked out then we know we are either only dealing with amateurs who don’t know exactly what they are doing, or that it was done in a hurry or hastily. Or it was done by those persons or a person who doesn’t know how Star Fleet computers and systems are laid out. The bridge is usually always in a state of cleanliness and/or order, so the lack of dust would put this event somewhere in the recent timeline. Say less than a week but probably less than 3 days.” Andrew explained. Tom smiled and said "I was thinking the same thing." Jackson thought for a moment. Feeling a bit light in the stomach, Ailyn began breathing more slowly to help to relax. Transporters usually did this to her, and although most of people wouldn't even feel anything, Ailyn could - specially because she ate right before the mission. Looking around herself, she noticed Tesha smiling, as she was enjoying the moment, but aside Tesha's positive mood and Ensign Signos, there wasn't anyone in the sickbay at all. Tesha seemed to move to a computer console and tried accessing it. After several seconds and a beep from the console, the Andorian looked unhappy with the results. "We seem to be locked out of the computer." This made sense, if the crew were expecting to be borded, they would lock down the console to limit any kind of advantage the boarders could use against them. Ailyn moved to the main computer console. Of course at the first try of accessing the records or scans, the familiar and a very annoying beep "Access denied.". As if the unnerving beep sound of the computer didn't help, Ailyn didn't really feel good. ~Damn, this place gives me the creeps.~ Ailyn felt uncomfortable in the sickbay. It seemed Tesha had as much luck with accessing logs as Ailyn did. Ailyn was willing to give up for now, obviously there was no way to access the files without imputing the proper codes from the bridge. The small sickbay really felt cold, it seemed the current temperature is bellow the standard and this didn't help with the atmosphere at all. Noticing a doors leading to another room, Ailyn looked into Tesha and Signos and then back to doors. "I'm not familiar with the Nova blueprints, where do these doors lead to?" asked Ailyn with a puzzled face (Reply: Any currently in sickbay) Exchanging the looks with the rest, Ailyn slowly came to the doors leading to the morgue. Taking her time, the doors opened, showing a new, darkly lit room, mysteriously inviting the trio to come inside. Ailyn could notice a cryo chamber right in the middle of the room, and it seemed to be hooked up to an external computer. A quick glance over the monitor from the entrance of the room left Ailyn even more puzzled. They were life signs. "Is th.. there someone in that cryo chamber?" Ailyn asked while still looking into the lifesigns. She did not even think about what she said, freezing for a moment, she couldn't think a reason why would anyone be chambered. After she realized there's no telling what could have happened and that the humanoid inside could in fact need help, she came to her senses and finally went inside. It seemed another person already went in and had a tricorder out. "Lifesigns?" asked Ailyn while checking visually the person inside. The person seemed to be a male engineer. (Reply: Any) "Alright, I guess we'll have to check the roster later on to find out his name." said Ailyn (Reply: Any) "Agreed." said Ailyn and pressed her combadge. =/\= Ensign (jg) Andersen to Lieutenant Commander Sanok. It was still too early to know why, or what had happened, but if the captain or crew needed to do something like that, it had to have been for a very important reason. Sanok learned early in his Starfleet career, that facing mysteries was a common thing. He also found them to be a fascinating challenge. It was likely they would solve this one. In doing that, he hoped they could also bring home the 83 people from the Tesla. Tesha accessed her PADD and brought up Nova deck plans. "It's the morgue." Her antennae jittered. She had seen people die before, and she had become accustomed to it in the course of doing her duties, but it was still an unpleasant part of the cycle of life. Doc Andersen approached the doors and they slid open. The morgue was dark, and it felt cold. Tesha's antennae jittered again. There was a cryo chamber in the middle of the room and it appeared to be active. "Is th... there someone in that cryo chamber?" said Andersen. Tesha waited for Doc Andersen to take the lead, but the young doctor seemed to be overwhelmed by what was happening. Andersen was fresh out of the academy and on her first away mission, so Tesha supposed that was understandable. Tesha moved past Doc Andersen and entered the morgue first. She began a scan with her medical tricorder. "Life signs?" Andersen had finally made it inside. "Yes, Doctor. It's a male humanoid; I can't tell what species. Everything is locked out, just like in the main area." "Alright," said Andersen. "I guess we'll have to check the roster later on to find out his name." "We should report this to the Rosenante," said Tesha. "They can access the Tesla crew roster for us." Doc Andersen agreed. She tapped her comm badge and contacted the Rose. Lieutenant Commander Sanok gave them orders to leave the man inside the chamber, but also to try to learn why he was there. Officers always wanted everything. Tom tapped his comm-badge and sent, "Rosenante, Lt Jackson reporting in." =^= This is Sanok. Go ahead, Lieutenant. =^= The Lieutenant Jackson and the FO spoke very briefly on the need for the chief engineer to assist with the current problem. Once they were finished and the line was closed, Jackson turned to Andrew, "you are the key man on this unlock attempt. Get the unlock done understood?" "Understood, sir." Andrew answered already knee-deep in work. He started by attempting some of the standard methods taught to all cadets in the basic computer courses at the academy. He would hate to attempt a very elaborate method, have that not work, and then try the simpler method and it works like a charm. The standard methods that Andrew tried did not work. One that he could have tried, resetting the main computer he reserved for a last ditch effort. He did so because that would erase anything that was still in active memory and not saved yet. He continued to work when the Chief Engineer was beamed onto the Tesla's bridge. They spoke while Andrew continued to work. Since the simpler methods didn't work and trying to enter commands into the console were like pounding fists against a brick wall, except his fists weren't getting cut up and bloody, now Andrew had to start removing panels. He picked up his engineering kit and brought it to the aft stations, just in-case he needed a tool or two. He then used his tricorder to attempt to access the computer system. He punched in the commands to establish a link but disabled the one between the tricorder and the Rose, just in-case there was a malicious program at work. A few seconds and the link was established. ~Good, now I can at least see what the magnitude is of what I'm dealing with.~ He thought. The link and independent processor he had supplied by the tricorder and Andrew was able to browse the outside of the files. He could see the file names, see how big they were and if they were encrypted or not, but he couldn't look at the code in those files, yet. Each time you access a terminal from its interface touch-pad it accesses a file on what those keystrokes mean to the interface program you are using. If the station is locked usually the lock out will access the encryption algorithm instead, so with the link Andrew watched to see which file was being accessed when he attempted to use the terminal. Which he found. "That's huge!" Andrew said instead of thinking. (reply any) "Oh, sorry sirs. I just found what we are dealing with here." Andrew explained. (Reply any) "I linked an independent processor to this ship's computer so I can DO something. This allowed me to browse around, not actually edit anything, but at least look. He announced. (reply Matrix) "I suppose we could attempt a hard shutdown, sir, however if there is any half-finished log still floating around in the active memory it will be lost. Of course, there were any number of unknown reasons as well. At this point, better to be safe than sorry. Sanok reopened the channel. "Doctor, for now, leave the person in the chamber, but do what you can to determine why the person is there. It may become necessary to revive this person. Matrix leaned against the engineering console, "Carry on Ensign." "I linked an independent processor to this ship's computer so I can DO something. Matrix tapped his PADD to access the Rose computer catalog, "While it is true that encryption codes are used each time there is a lockout, the Tesla may not have been using the latest encryption keys. In fact the Rose should have a copy of her encryption sequences in the main computer. We should be able to decipher enough to steer us in the right direction. The pass code sequences should be predictable and we might be able to author an algorithm to test the patterned codes the Tesla creates with each attempt. From there we may be able to learn enough to break a few pass codes." replied Matrix. "Stand by, Doctor." said Sanok A few second later Sanok reopened the channel. "Doctor, for now, leave the person in the chamber, but do what you can to determine why the person is there. It may become necessary to revive this person. Also, send us an image and we will identify the person from the crew records. Contact us immediately if you find anything at all." "What do we do now, Doctor?" asked Tesha Ailyn turned towards her and grinned. "Well, how good are you at photography?" Seconds later, Tesha was taking shots for the identification, and Ailyn was infront of the unsolvable problem. She had to learn more useful information about the person inside. And the lockdown seemed to be in place just to prevent that, among other things. Ensign Signos was much better at this and Ailyn felt if someone could crack down the security lockdown locally here in the morgue, it could only be her. Ailyn first looked in the chamber then back at the computer console it was hooked up to. "Well I can tell one thing right away. The cryo stasis was issued from this console, it's isolated from the mainframe and connected directly to the cryo chamber." making a stop, she looked the person inside. There were no controls from the inside and judging by how the person was looking towards the console as if the last gaze was towards a person using it, it really seemed as a valid conclusion the person didn't put himself to stasis. Remembering her Vulcan basic science teacher, trying to imagine what he would say in her place, she continued in a more monotone voice without even realizing she did. "The logical conclusion would be the person was put to stasis by someone else." explained Ailyn aloud, but it was more like a note to herself But she wasn't exactly giving up on the computer and the data inside as well. ~Let's try... nope doesn't seem to work either.~ Ailyn was trying out her luck on the external computer, issuing commands on the console with her long sleek fingers - she was fast. Sadly speed wasn't much of a help since everything was locked down aside the basic life function monitors. According to those, the man inside was healthy, did not have a disease and wasn't injured. But all the other data was locked tight. It seemed she would have to wait for the other crew to crack down or restart the system so she can gain access. She just didn't know how long that would take, so instead she continued looking for anything at all that could help explain the situation. Working hard trying to find just about anything, Ailyn tried anything she knew about computers. The lockdown in place didn't gave her alot to maneuver in and deprived her of any possible information. And she didn't have the computer knowledge of a security officer either. One blocked command led to another and then to another, and it all seemed like a maze with millions of dead ends. Eventually, she seemed to catch some luck and come to original code. She could not bypass it, nor she could see it, however, she could see the number of characters. Being a doctor herself, she knew how long a CMO's security codes are and what she was looking at puzzled her even more. It was a complex twelve-part code with many characters. Why would someone go that far to lockdown the computer hooked to the cryo chamber was beyond anything Ailyn could think of at the moment. But what was even more unusual was those security codes didn't looked like CMO ones. Instead these were usually given to high ranking ops and security officers. It seemed the order to put this man in stasis might have came from high above the ranking chain. ~Perhaps this person knew what happened here and the rest of the crew put him to stasis so he could tell Starflet exactly what happened when we do find him.~ extrapolated Ailyn, but this was all wild guessing. She felt this wasn't big enough discovery to let Sanok know because she had no proofs to back up her theory. The more she was on the ship, the more uncomfortable she was getting. The atmosphere felt cold and the ship reeked with this awful feeling as if it was alive and looking at Ailyn. She wasn't helping herself either, remembering the old child stories about a ghost sailing ship, a specific one told to her by her father many many years ago -- and the nightmares she had about it. ~What was that?~ Ailyn thought while looking back. She had an awful feeling that someone was behind her. But neither Tesha nor Signos were behind her. The other two ladies were silent. She only caught a wondering face from Tesha. Shrugging, she explained "The transporters - I'm disoriented the whole damn day." The stress from the first away mission and a bad start with the transporters seemed to made Ailyn feel and hear things that wasn't supposed to be there. She tried conscioussly to turn these things off in her head. Otherwise she would be relieved of duty as not fit to serve, and besides, Ailyn was sure everyone else felt similar on their first away mission. Now if only someone could turn off that lockdown on that computer... (Reply: Any in the morgue) (Posted by: Lani) ----- (USS Tesla, Sickbay, PO1 Tesha, Day 1, 1224) "What do we do now, Doctor?" asked Tesha "Well, how good are you at photography?" said Andersen with a grin. Tesha nodded with understanding. Using her tricorder, she scanned the face of the man inside the cryo chamber. Opening a comm channel to the Rosenante, she sent the information. While they waited to hear back from the Rosenante, Tesha watched Doc Andersen. She could tell the doc was unsure, but she was giving it her all as she studied the situation at hand. This officer had promise. The doc paused from her work and looked behind her. It seemed as though she had heard something, but there wasn't anything to be heard. Tesha looked at the doc, a puzzled expression on her face, but she didn't say anything. Andersen shrugged. "The transporters. I'm disoriented the whole damn day." Tesha gave Doc Andersen a reassuring smile. The transporters made Tesha's antennae feel tingly. They had a different affect on Doc Andersen. =^=Sanok to Tesha.=^= The room had become so silent, the sudden comm call from the FO startled them. "This is Tesha." =^=We have information for you. At least they knew who the man was. Now, why had he been placed into stasis? They hadn't heard from the others on board, so she assumed they were just as baffled. Nothing exciting was happening, but it did get her out for a bit. What was that? Tesha slowly moved away from the chamber. She thought she had seen something moving in the corner, near a desk. Approaching cautiously, she saw a quick flash of movement. Her antennae were pointing forward, and she was tense. Peering into the shadows, she stopped and blinked in disbelief, her antennae drooping slightly. She let out breath she hadn't realized she was holding. A lab coat hanging on a wall hook was gently swaying in the current from an air duct. ~Come on girl. Don't let your imagination get the best of you.~ She could feel her cheeks warming as they turned blue from embarrassment. Not wanting the others to see, she pretended to be looking through the items that were on the desk. There was nothing remarkable there, so when she felt her face returning back to normal, she rejoined the others. "Anything yet, Doctor?" Using the Rose's computer, the Tesla's encryption sequences, an educated guess or two and a little luck we might get lucky." said Matrix. "Finding anything in active memory should be easy enough, as will downloading it for possible future separate decryption. However at this time since the entirety of the Tesla computer is locked, and we cannot determine the exact contents of any of the files, storage or anything in active memory, I recommend that we don't actively link the Rose main computer with the Tesla's main computer. There may be a here-to-fore unknown malicious program at work. I have already done this with my tricorder. If you do decide to bring code and resources over from the Rose we should isolate it, and anything else we will be using here on the Tesla from the Rose computer until at least we decrypt the Tesla computer and are able to determine that no threat exists." What Sanok always found to be something worthy of an eye roll, was the timing of those transfers. While in a somewhat remote sector, and while investigating a deserted ship, a comm signal came in saying the CMO was on his way. Security checks and scans were done, and the runabout docked. Another check of the doctor and his orders, and he was on his way to the bridge to report in. The turbolift opened and a Bolian wearing medical blue entered. Sanok stood to meet him. He contacted lieutenant Jackson to inform him of his progress...or lack thereof. "Lieutenant Tho'var to lieutenant Jackson. I have been trying to reprogram the pool table system to block the locking signal but it didn't work. My analysis indicate that it is more than a simple lock out. It looks like the crew of the Tesla put a level 8 lockout throughout the ship, probably to prevent anyone from accessing the computer. The only way to unlock such lockout is to go to the computer core and use a series of secret coding and chips to unlock all eight protection layers. Then, it should be possible to access the computer core own command to unlock itself." (Reply Jackson) The news that lieutenant commander Matrix was there felt both like a good news and a bad news. The good news was, there was an even better expert to work on the problem. The bad news was, Tho'var actually preferred when working alone and under his own initiative. This all made sense since the man had an engineering uniform on himself. Not having any disciplinary actions and actually being commended several times all added up to the presumption Ailyn had before, that it was probably put to stasis by another person from the ship, by an order from someone high in the chain of command, most probably to relay what happened on the ship to anyone that found him. Ailyn got caught in her thinking for a few seconds but was alerted out when Tesha moved away from the chamber, going into one of the corners. Ailyn looked in the direction, thinking perhaps Tesha found something, but after she came back it did seem like she didn't found anything there. "Anything yet, Doctor?" asked Tesha "No, sadly, nothing yet. It's locked down so tight. I tried everything I knew and wasn't able to find anything else." said Ailyn with a disapointed look on her face. She did her best, but it was clearly not enough. Ailyn sat on one of the chair, and turned it towards Tesha. Moving one leg over the other, she put her left hand so that it carried her head. Turning her head more towards Tesha, her left part of the face grinned with a mischevious grin. "Tesha, may I ask, what was your first away mission like?" Ailyn asked innocently, but it was obvious she was toying with the question. Feeling Tesha wasn't so comfortable with the direct questions, Ailyn was playing the little prankster. (Reply: Tesha) "Well, that actually sounds like fun." said Ailyn and laughed, sitting more relaxed on the chair. "That actually reminded me of one of the holo missions we had at the Academy. Talking about the Academy... had any crushes?" asked Ailyn with almost her tongue out of her mouths. The trick was to fire the question conviniently and pack it out in the ordinary sentence like it was any other question. For some reason, most people seemed to answer it in that case. It was obvious Tesha was blushing by now. (Reply: Tesha) "Oh... Okay! I meant the Cadets.. but there's nothing wrong with having crushes on instructors too! I.. I suppose." Ailyn made an uncertain face, but quickly turned it into a sweet smile seeing Tesha was getting more uncomfortable. Or furious. Ailyn could never figure one from the other on Andorians. (Reply: Tesha) "Oh, yeah. He was an athlete as well as a Cadet. Had to choose between the two. You should of seen those muscles..." explained Ailyn, although Tesha didn't seem as comfortable in girl talks as Ailyn was. "At the end he rolled out and that was the last time I saw him. He could never remember my name." Ailyn giggled, thinking how clumsy he was everytime she approached him. (Reply: Tesha) "I seriously didn't know that part of Andorian culture." explained Ailyn amused to what she heard from Tesha. "Earth is... beautiful, but kind of too peaceful. You know. It's a great place to live out your retirement, though." said Ailyn and both girls laughed (Reply: Tesha) But the chitchat couldn't help with the feeling Ailyn was still having. With every word said, she was more and more sure that her every move was being followed by the unseen eyes. ~This ship is making me crazy.~ though Ailyn Looking to her sides to check once again the rest of the room only to find nothing there made Ailyn atleast a little bit more sure the three girls were alone in the whole Sickbay. Sitting up, Ailyn stretched her legs a bit, then put her hands infront of her together to stretch out her fingers. Ability to play many musical instruments really helped Ailyn attain a high speed and dexterity of her fingers, and that was the reason she was such a fast typer. "The academy days were so funny. And we were so so silly." added Ailyn and smiled (Reply: Tesha) (Posted by: Lani) ----- (USS Tesla, Bridge , 2O/COPS Lieutenant Tom Jackson- 1234) Tom was thinking when he felt a presence unlike anything he had before. He looked around ans noticed only his teammates. Jackson shrugged it off as a case of the jitters. His ming came back to the present when a call from LT. Kervas came in. Tom tapped his badge and said "Yes Lieutenant? " =^= I have been trying to reprogram the pool table system to block the locking signal but it didn't work. Then,it should be possible to access the computer core own command to unlock itself.=^= Tom listened and digested the report. He thought a minute and ordered " LCDR Matrix and Ensign Maddox are tackling the unlocking issue. I need you to inspect engineering. Look for any signs of obvious tampering as well as signs of any kind of struggle." (Reply: Kervas) Tom added " Once done with that meet me in the Shuttle Bay. I want to see if anything is missing from there understood?" (Reply: Kervas) (Posted by: Bill West) ====================
